Winston Plywood & Veneer, Louisville, MS
Wed., June 27th, 12:30 - 4:30 PM
On April 28, 2014, a F4 tornado struck City of Louisville, Mississippi. The plywood mill in Louisville, purchased just thirty days earlier by New Wood Resources LLC, an Atlas Holdings company, to establish a new business called Winston Plywood & Veneer, was in the direct path of the tornado. It was completely destroyed.
In 2015, the City of Louisville — in cooperation with the State of Mississippi, Winston Plywood & Veneer, New Wood Resources and Atlas Holdings LLC — broke ground on a new, state-of-the-art plywood mill.
This world-class facility now employs around 400 workers, roughly double the previous mill’s total. In Winston County alone, Winston Plywood & Veneer has created more than 600 jobs (including jobs that support the facility), $28 million in annual wages, and nearly $9 million annually in other local purchases. Across the broader 33-county region, the mill generates a projected $66 million in annual wages, more than $105 million annually in other local purchases, and over 1,400 total jobs.
By early 2016, the Winston Plywood & Veneer mill began to produce a full-range of specialty and commodity plywood products. Over time, it is expected to generate 400 million square feet of plywood per year — 175 million more than what had been planned for the original mill before the tornado.
Both tours depart by bus from the Mill Conference Center in Starkville. Attendees may add either tour to their registration for an additional charge of $50. A box lunch will be provided. Space is limited.
