This study was undertaken in response to a recent report (8) that showed high Cu, Cr, and As leaching from CCA-treated wood exposed to buffered acidic solutions. CCA-treated wood of four species as leached with acidified water and a citric acid buffered solution, and the elemental losses of were compared. It is shown that the reported high leaching was caused by the use of the citric acid buffer rather than simply by low pH.
