Shear properties tests of oriented strandboard panels

Quality-control programs of panel products largely ignore shear properties due to the difficulties involved in testing them. However, with increasing demand and wide-spread applications of oriented strandboard as a structural sheathing material, frequent monitoring of the shear properties is essential. This paper introduces alternative test setups and test fixtures to overcome the inherent problems associated with the standard test methods, making it possible to also include shear properties in a quality-control program for structural-use panel production. The test protocols have been adopted by the PFS Research Foundation to monitor the shear properties of oriented strandboard on a regular basis.
