A matrix structure for solving microcomputer-based linear programming models of softwood plywood mills was developed. Machine centers, product components, product prices, and market restrictions were included. A unique procedure was used that reduced the number of rows and columns in the matrix. Models were tested in a production environment. The models performed well, yielded accurate estimates over many months, and increased mill profits.
