Information on the engineering and end-use properties of hardboard embossed panels is necessary for appropriate use and promotion. Such information can be useful not only to users but also to manufacturers of this product. Engineering properties of commercial medium density hardboard embossed siding panels from six U.S. mills, each belonging to a different manufacturing company, are presented. Test results indicate that although the tested properties of all the panels met the established commercial standards for hardboard siding panels, there were significant differences in the majority of properties of panels from the six different manufacturers. Certain board properties from some manufacturers are two times as strong as boards from other manufacturers. The results also indicate that, after being subjected to soaking and cycling, the level of retention of several properties of these boards is higher than the retention level of any other structural wood panels.
