The durability of yellow-poplar and red maple treated with ACQ-B

Durability of yellow-poplar and red maple treated with ammoniacal copper quaternary compound, Type B (ACQ- B) was evaluated in field plots in West Virginia and Mississippi. Stakes were vacuum-pressure treated with ACQ-B to four retentions and placed at the test sites. Stakes were evaluated yearly according to American Wood-Preservers’ Association standards. The 3-year results suggest that retentions above 0.2 pcf (as CuO) will result in satisfactory performance of all species tested. Southern pine performed extremely well at all retentions above zero. All species exhibited increases in durability performance as retentions increased.
