A method for analyzing fluoride in wood by extraction in place of ashing was evaluated with Douglas-fir heartwood and ponderosa pine sapwood treated with various levels of fluoride. Although the method tended to underestimate fluoride levels slightly, the time required for the assay was shorter than the current standard method, thus allowing for analysis of a far greater number of samples.
