With today’s environmental pressures, owners, principals, and operators of sawmills servicing the hardwood industry need to be particularly concerned about impact on the environment of the products they use, the services they provide, and the waste generated thereof. In today’s amalgam of letters like OSHA, FIFRA, EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, and the vast other collections of letters in the alphabet representing short abbreviations for firms and acts enlisted by the United States Government to protect human health and the environment, we must all run our businesses with thoughtful consideration to how these acts and rules impact our day-to-day operations and, indeed, our bottom line. The following presentation is a short summary of the impact of some of these rules and how this will affect the hardwood sawmill in its day-to-day operations, beginning with compliance and also remedial action.
