A regional timber supply assessment model is described. Its major components are a geographical forest survey data base and. modules for growth projection, calculation of harvest-transport costs for potential producers, and stand allocation. The stand allocation module assumes mill demands are fixed. Mill demand and harvest-transport costs are the key factors driving the allocation process. The usefulness of the model for studying the impacts over time of demand scenarios or industrial expansion on timber costs is illustrated with an example from the Lake States.
