A study was undertaken to compare, the yields of usable furniture dimension parts from lumber and green cuttings dried by two drying methods: radio-frequency/vacuum (RFV) drying and conventional kiln-drying. The highest yields were recorded when drying lumber by the RFV method and then cutting the dimension. The second highest yield was recorded for cutting the green dimension and drying the green dimension by the RFV process. However, over 40 percent of the parts which were cut in the green were rejected after drying. An advantage to cutting the dimension from green lumber and then drying the dimension, instead of drying the lumber and then cutting the dimension, was the reduction in the amount of lumber dried per board foot of usable dimension from 2.45 board feet to 1.88 board feet.
