Decay Resistance of Alaska-Cedar

Decay resistance of mill run Alaska-cedar heartwood was evaluated by means of standard ASTM (D-2017-63) soil-block testing. Test material consisted of 33 heartwood boards supplied by five lumber dealers. Each board could be presumed to have come from a different tree. The data indicated that mill run Alaskan-cedar heartwood may have superior resistance to decay in service aboveground but only moderate resistance under the more severe hazard of ground contact.
