In laboratory tests, termite tolerance to mirex increased 20-to 40-fold when termites exposed to insecticide transferred to nontoxic diet and had social support from nonexposed termites. Because natural termite colonies may have additional factors favoring further increase in tolerance, it appears that a ten-fold increase over the highest threshold dosage of the best laboratory assay is a reasonable field dosage.
