Western redcedar shakes were analyzed for thujaplicins after one, three and five years of exposure to weather. Partial depletion of these thujaplicins from the middle part, and complete loss from the exposed butt ends, of shakes was found after five years of weathering. The biological degradation of shakes is assumed to be related to the loss of fungicidal thujaplicins.
