Spent Sulfite Liquor Binder for Eastern Spruce Flakeboard

An investigation was conducted to evaluate the performance of a spent sulfite liquor binder in eastern spruce flakeboard and to determine the effects of board construction and of adhesive particle size and quality on the properties of flakeboards. Three board types and two quantities of adhesive particles of two particle size classes were employed. Several boards attained modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity values which exceeded the commercial standard for a Class Two, medium density, Type Two, mat-formed particleboard.
