An apparatus is described which aids in determination of layer-density of particleboard samples by removing successive slices from the sample. Weight and thickness measurements made before and after each slice is removed may be used to calculate the density of the slice (layer). Samples are 5-cm by 5-cm square, and slices as thin as 0.25 mm may be removed. Limitations of the equipment and accuracy of measurements are described.
