A fast method of determining the OD SG of moist plywood panels is proposed, and its accuracy is evaluated for commercial sheathing-grade, Douglas-fir plywood. The method consists of measuring the moist weight and dimensions of specimens to determine the corresponding nominal SG. This, in turn, is mathematically converted into the equivalent OD value, assuming that the shrinkage of plywood is equal to the weighted average of the radial shrinkage for the veneer species involved.
