A prototype jet impingement dryer capable of drying boards up to 4 inches thick at air temperatures from 80? to 400?F and air velocities from 1,000 to 9,000 fpm is described. The dryer features 1) electronic temperature and humidity control, 2) controllable board travel rate in a reciprocating motion to simulate a longer continuous dryer, 3) easily changed spacing between the opposing banks of jet holes to accommodate a wide range of board thicknesses, and 4) steam conditioning capabilities.
