A computer system with graphics capability has the potential of simulating logs and the process of sawing them into lumber. The log is simulated and displayed on a cathode ray tube as a cylinder or truncated cone by in puting the two diameters and the length of the log. Defect locations and dimensions are generated through a random process and displayed as rectangular solids. The process of Live sawing the log was also simulated and the resulting boards and slabs displayed.
