A concept called 100-level construction is described. It is based on the fact that there is a range of quality characteristics within any given lumber or plywood grade. Homeowner and builder are aware of quality distinctions and are willing to pay for superior performance or appearance. If honestly delineated quality differences were applied to lumber, plywood, and other materials, a house could be built with all component parts in some sort of proper balance.
