A highly stable transducer-yoke assembly is described which can be accurately positioned to measure the minute deflections of small specimens during bending tests. The transducer-yoke reported here is suspended from the top surface of a specimen at three points rather than four points, which not only provides stability but also ease of adjustment. Since the new transducer-yoke assembly does not use the neutral axis of the beam and is free to more along the top, the gage length remains constant as the top surface shortens. Once the voltage reference point and approximate expected deflection are known, calibrations for the transducer and x-y recorder can be made.
