This paper describes a rapid, quantitative infrared method for the determination of melamine formaldehyde in the presence of wood cellulose. When the absorbance ratio 810 cm was plotted against percent resin content, a good 2900 cm correlation was obtained. The accuracy and reproducibility of this method are high. The method should be of interest to people in both research and quality control in wood, pulp, and paper products, as it offers effective evaluation of resin efficiency and distribution in wood-based products with little expenditure of time.
