The extrusion application of foamed adhesives is particularly well adapted to automatic plywood layup systems. In this process unfoamed adhesive is pumped at a controlled rate through an inline foaming device. The foamed adhesive continues through an extrusion head and is deposited in a suitable uniform pattern onto veneers as they pass through the layup system. The process has advantages when used with conventional bond setting procedures, but is especially suited to a procedure in which the heat required to set the bond is prestored in the veneers before the adhesive is applied.
