Developments in the past year and future trends in the United States and Canadian plywood and veneer industry are reviewed. Plywood production statistics for 1955 are compared with earlier years and a summary of the current uses for plywood is presented. Commercial standards for hardwood plywood and softwood plywood were revised in 1955 and the important changes are noted. Use of improved equipment for log handling, and veneer cutting, drying, and handling are discussed as is the use of additional species of both hardwoods and softwoods not previously favored for plywood. The need for better waste utilization is emphasized. A bibliography is included listing U.S. and Canadian publications on the subject of plywood and veneer for the years 1954 and 1955.
