If a mill owner is interested in venturing into the particleboard business he should first research all technical and economic aspects. This can be done in the following steps: l) Investigate and evaluate the product properties that will provide performance suitable to the consumer. 2) Determine the market potential for whatever types of board are under consideration. 3) Make a projection of annual sales and dollar income from a market survey; preferably done by an independent agency. 4) Make a projection of the availability, capacities, and costs of all the factors of production. The combined information should provide a good indication of whether or not a successful business can be established. Agencies are available to do pilot-plant studies on the feasibility of proposed production methods.
