In climates similar to that at Ogden, Utah, initially air-dry lumber can be safely stored outside in bulk bundles indefinitely without the need of preservative treatment. In climates similar to that at Hampton Roads, Va., and Anniston, Ala., initially air-dry, lumber can be safely kept free of decay for at least 4.5 years in bulk-bundle storage by dip treating the bundles in an acceptable preservative. A 5 percent solution of a mixture of sodium fluoride, potassium bichromate, sodium arsenate, and dinitrophenol (water solvent) is considerably more effective in controlling fungus stain in bulk-bundled lumber stored outside than any other formula.
