A technique has been developed which enables the surface of a wood specimen to be viewed during the process of preservative treatment. The specially prepared surface is coated with a transparent cold-setting epoxy resin and is bonded to a Perspex disc which serves as an observation window in a pressure impregnating cylinder. When the pressure treatment is applied the path of the preservative as it penetrates the wood can be observed.
