Measurements of the A.C. resistance of power poles that had been floated in salt water were compared with similar measurements for green poles and fresh water floated poles as they were exposed to natural weathering over a 12-month period. The results showed that the electrical resistance of all poles was sufficiently low so that when wet they should be considered a potential shock hazard to linemen. The effect of 1 year’s weathering was to increase the resistance, with that of the salt-water floated poles approaching the resistance of fresh-water floated or green power poles.
