Two laboratories made independent comparison tests of phenolic resin-bonded particleboard using the two methods outlined. Actual test values and the conditions under which these values were obtained were presented. The overall results of the comparison tests between the two methods for accelerated aging showed that there was a very close correlation between the two and that the shorter test could be expected to provide the same information about the durability of the boards as does the presently accepted standard. On this basis, the Technical Committee issued the new method as its Test Method No. 6.l, “Accelerated Aging Test for Evaluating the Durability Characteristics of Exterior Grade Wood Particleboard.” It is also intended to propose the new method to the ASTM as modification of the present test in the hope that it will be adopted as the industry standard test method.
