Moisture meters of the resistance types and radio frequency types are employed in the lumber and woodworking fields. The meters range in penetration from 1/8-inch to 2 inches. The paint industry uses meters to detect improper moisture in painted surfaces. Meters also find application in the textile and paper industries. Standard lumber meters are calibrated for 60 wood species based on results from 3,500 samples.
