The equations used in the 1991 National Design Specification (NDS) (AFPA, 1991a) for computing the lateral stability factors for bending (CL) and compression (Cp) members are rather intimidating. The use of graphs will greatly reduce the computational work. A brief discussion and a helpful design chart follow for each of these factors (Hoyle, 1992).
