Presents the results of a 22-day visit to Russia in July 1956 as a member of the Canadian delegation on forest industries. The trend in the USSR is towards complete mechanization of logging operations. Tractors were of good design and appeared satisfactory for logging purposes. Utilization practices in forest and mill appeared good. Tree-length logging reduced waste to a minimum. There was evidence of an intent to develop and try out new techniques in order to improve extraction and manufacturing practices throughout the forest industries.
