Experimental testing of wood structural members often requires many specimens and multiple strain measurements on each specimen. Thus, an efficient and economical strain-measuring instrument is desirable. This paper presents a laboratory-built ?clip-on? displacement-measuring transducer developed to measure strains in wood. Details of its construction, calibration, characteristics, and validation are discussed. The electrical transducer is economical, easily built, accurate, and reusable.
