The cost of additives in a particleboard process represents 40 to 60 percent of the total direct manufacturing costs. Fifty percent of this is for wax and resin, which, for an average size plant, is about $375,000 per year. A system employing electronic controls for precisely metering, pumping, and mixing the additives with the wood is described, including an alarm system to indicate malfunction.
