A new dimension sawmill performance measure

The performance of a sawmill has great impact on a lumber company’s profit. To maximize the company’s profit, the sawmill performance must be measured correctly. The weaknesses of several performance measures were examined. A new performance measure was introduced to eliminate these weaknesses. The new measure takes into account four factors: product mix, lumber recovery, log processing rate, and log diameter, hence, it is called the 4-F Performance Index.
