A Turning Method for Monitoring Tool Wear When Machining Reconstituted Wood Products

A method which monitors cutting forces for a long continuous cut with a single knife edge on a lathe to compare cutting parameters is described. The equipment and applications are discussed. Examples of tool force versus length of cut curves are provided. The method is versatile and can be applied to cutting reconstituted wood products such as medium density fiberboard.
