Transverse moisture content average and distribution in air-seasoned jack pine fence posts was estimated by a resistance type moisture meter used with a special electrode. Results were compared with average moisture content values determined by the ovendrying method. The posts averaged 6.7 inches in diameter, and their moisture content varied from 21 to 26 percent. Results indicate that, below the fiber saturation point, the moisture content in jack pine fence posts can be obtained by increasing the moisture readings at any depth by 4 or 5 percent. When the special electrodes are replaced by escutcheon pins, the results of the meter must be increased by about 8 percent.
