Although several manufacturers have some glued products of fire-retardant treated wood available, too few have attempted to solve their own problems. Machining treated wood presents the major problem as planer and moulder knives wear quickly and are expensive to replace. Carbide-tipped blades and knives are best. Fire-retardant treated material must be well machined to insure good bonding. Drying treated wood is critical. Temperature should not exceed 150?F and 4 to 6 weeks drying time is suggested for 5/4 lumber. Best durability is obtained with resorcinol and phenolic adhesives.
