Aid to Rapid Differentiation Between California White Fir and Hemlock Woods

A rapid method is presented for assisting the process of distinguishing between wood of true fir and hemlock as they occur in the California market. It is based upon differences in the shape of crystals contained in the bark and requires no detailed specimen preparation.
