Nine chemical compounds and two waterproof papers were evaluated for ability to reduce warp. Two commercial chemical compounds and the two papers worked well with No. 2 southern yellow pine 2 by 4’s, 8 feet long. Approximately 25 percent of the pieces were improved by chemical treatment. Paper wrappings practically prevented warp from occurring, and pieces often had less warp after wrapping and storage than was observed before wrapping. The chemical treatments generally did not help those pieces containing considerable wide-ring wood. The degree of warp was found to change geographically. Through proper log selection, sawing practice, and chemical treatment, three-fourths of the warp problems in southern pine can be eliminated.
