On the assumption that the number of cuts made on a log with a double-cutting headrig is the same as that with a single-cutting headrig, the reduction in headsaw time for a double-cutting saw can be approximated by an equation. Percentage increases in production can also be calculated. For three double-cutting bandmills studied in British Columbia, the increases in production attributable to double-cutting were 14, 16, and 23 percent.
