The potential economic benefits of covered wood fuel storage are discussed and a procedure to evaluate these benefits is presented. Based on moisture content changes and fiber loss variations in wood fuel stored under cover vs. the open condition, covered storage may be more economical in many cases. The payback period for the storage facility in this example is 2.1 years.
