An Investigation of the Chemically Reactive Constituents of Atmospheric Emissions from Hogged Fuel Fired Boilers in Oregon

A literature review was carried out to determine a suitable emission factor for emission of hydrocarbons from hogged-fuel-fired boilers. Oregon Department of Environmental Quality data on annual hogged-fuel usage in Oregon and an estimated emission factor of 4.0 pounds of hydrocarbons per ton of fuel burned were used to calculate total annual hydrocarbon emissions of 10,800 tons per year. Of this amount, 11 percent or approximately 1,200 tons per year are considered to be reactive. The conclusion is reached that these emissions do not present a significant pollution potential in Oregon.
