Angle-to-grain tensile strength specimen for thin wood samples

A specimen was developed for the determination of angle-to-grain tensile strength of thin (0.25 in.) wood sections. The specimen was evaluated by failure location distribution, parallel- and perpendicular-to-grain strength values, and conformity to Hankinson’s formula. The general configuration of the specimen may prove useful for other investigations requiring the evaluation of thin wood sections.
