Forestry inventory shows that there is about 5.5 billion cubic feet of cypress timber in the South, mainly in Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, and South Carolina. The purpose of this study was to manufacture cement-bonded cypress excelsior board, to determine the bending and insulation properties, and to compare them with those of southern pine excelsior board. Results indicate that cypress is a suitable species for cement excelsior board. It meets all commercial standards and possesses the same bending properties as southern pine excelsior board. Its insulation value, however, is slightly lower than that reported by the manufacturer for southern pine excelsior board.
