Describes tests made in a commercial dryer adapted to accelerate the removal of free water from solid stacks of green hardwood furniture rounds to a target moisture of about 25 percent, the dryer being completely loaded with rounds of sap tupelo, sap sweetgum, heart sweetgum, soft maple, ash, and red oak. The use of unstickered packages has advantages that far outweigh any gain in drying time that could be obtained by stickering rounds. Dryer capacity is increased by 40 to 50 percent; the rounds are restrained during drying (thus less warp); and, most importantly, the savings in handling and transportation costs are very substantial.
