Research in gluing white oak lumber with various types of resorcinol and phenol-resorcinol glues showed that when the curing temperature for these decreased, the curing time increased exponentially. No curing temperatures lower than 80?F. were tried. Three glues showed about the same type temperature curing requirements although two of them made by the same manufacturer differed considerably in resorcinol content. The fact that several glues exhibited similar time-temperature curing characteristics permits grouping glues with the same curing requirements, and, thus, specifications can be simplified. The fact that there is a definite improvement in glue bond quality for periods of several weeks to several months with some glues when the curing is carried out at 80?F. may also be of considerable practical importance. Time-temperature curves were incorporated in schedules which are recommended for commercial gluing requirements.
