The structural action of the plywood folded plate is discussed in terms of a number of plywood roof diaphragms tilted up against one another giving mutual support. From this basic concept, the equations defining the behavior of the plywood folded plate and those yielding the required size of the structural elements, nail spacings, and the like, are developed. Certain variables are plotted or tabulated to show their effect on the member sizes to give the designer further insight into the economics of the system. Tests on a folded plate roof conducted by the Applied Research Lab. of DFPA are also described.
