A design method for built-up flexural members bonded with elastomeric adhesives is described. Computer-generated deflection and shear coefficients are employed. The method permits manipulation of parameters without using a computer. The influence of adhesive rigidity and glue line dimensions upon composite action and performance is illustrated for common structural panel proportions. Moderately stiff glues (G = 100 psi) and moderately strong glues (shear strength = 50 psi) are shown to be adequate for common structures. Adhesive relative creep of 1.0 is tolerable in roof and floor systems. The general status of elastomeric adhesive properties information is reviewed and areas of needed study are mentioned.
