An experiment is described that determines the swelling stress of a uniaxially restrained specimen of wood or wood composite board while its moisture content increases from one equilibrium level to another. Releasing the specimen at the end of the test yields the elastic portion of the restrained expansion. These two characteristics can be used to formulate a deformation modulus which together with the elastic portion of the restrained expansion may allow improved prediction of panel warping.
