This is the first attempt to use a blade with a separate rim for temperature compensation. A rim section carrying teeth is riveted to a center section so the rim can move radially in response to thermal strains. This enables the: blade to saw satisfactorily with a flat central section containing no residual stresses. The higher tangential tensile stress in the rim of the two-piece blade from centrifugal forces is of advantage in stiffening the blade. Sawing accuracy is dependent on the flatness of the blade while sawing.
